Extreme Rain Turns Ibiza Streets Into Rivers, Floods Airport And Hospitals
A video filmed by Ana Popss captures severe flooding as heavy rainfall transforms streets and roads into rushing rivers.
The footage shows water pouring through the roof of Ibiza Airport, flooding the terminal and causing major leaks in the security area near boarding gates.
Healthcare facilities were also affected. Can Misses Hospital experienced service disruptions due to a burst laboratory pipe, and the Es Viver health centre reported significant leaks.
Public transport has been heavily impacted, with all bus services to and from Ibiza town suspended. The flooding has made travel dangerous and difficult.
AEMET, the state meteorological agency, issued a red weather warning, reporting over 180 millimetres of rain in just twelve hours. The alert emphasized extraordinary danger and the risk of overflowing waterways.
The flooding was triggered by the remnants of Hurricane Gabrielle along with the effects of two other hurricanes, creating extreme conditions across the island.
