ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Two deputies are being praised for their bravery after saving an autistic child who entered a deep retention pond Saturday, officials said.

Corporal Andrew Pupo and Deputy Noel De Jesus were the first to arrive on scene and immediately jumped into the water, pulling the child to safety. The child was reunited with their parents and later transported by fire department personnel for medical care.

The sheriff’s office commended the deputies’ actions, noting that protecting vulnerable residents often means risking their own safety. “Every day, deputies are prepared to risk their lives to save others,” the agency said.
