China: AI takes wheel in designing China's next-gen maglev train
Storyline: AI takes wheel in designing China's next-gen maglev train [Voice_over] What would the next generation of trains look like if designed by AI? The answer lies in the workshop of CRRC Qingdao. [Stand_up] Aaron Liu, Reporter: "This is the latest generation of maglev train designed with AI assistance, reaching a speed of 600 kilometers per hour." [Voice_over] This is currently the fastest mode of transportation within a range of 1,500 kilometers: high-speed maglev. It has GOA3-level autonomous driving capability. [Stand_up] Aaron Liu, Reporter: "The control panel is actually very simple, with only one emergency brake button." [Sound_bite] Chen Jian, Director, CRRC Technology Quality and Informatization Department: "Yes, all the data has been processed by the AI on the train for decision-making assistance. If there are any anomalies, it will also push relevant organizational suggestions to the driver." [Voice_over] Another challenge is the resistance encountered after the increase in speed. [Sound_bite] Chen Jian, Director, CRRC Technology Quality and Informatization Department: "At a speed of 600 kilometers per hour, the resistance compared to 400 kilometers per hour may be more than double, which actually causes a significant increase in energy consumption." [Voice_over] With such high wind resistance, how can we find the optimal train head shape to reduce resistance? The answer is the involvement of AI in the design of the model. [Sound_bite] Chen Jian, Director, CRRC Technology Quality and Informatization Department: "It used to take over 200 days to develop a plan, but now with AI, it's shortened to just one day. AI plays the role of an expert. It analyzes a large amount of historical data and recommends the best solution to the designer for secondary verification." [Voice_over] Driven by data, AI can achieve higher simulation efficiency and accuracy, which is conducive to improving the efficiency and speed of the entire R & D process. [Sound_bite] Visitor from Thailand: "So advanced. The involvement of AI has greatly enhanced this modern design." [Sound_bite] Visitor: "Seeing the maglev feels more sci-fi. With AI-assisted driving, the driver becomes more of an assistant." [Restrictions : No access Chinese mainland]
