Typhoon Bualoi floods drag resident away before being rescued in Thailand
This is the terrifying moment floods caused by Typhoon Bualoi dragged a resident away in Thailand.
Footage shows the distressed local being swept downstream by the muddy deluge in Mae Hong Son on Tuesday.
He was seen wearing empty water containers as makeshift life preservers before being rescued by emergency crews, who pulled him toward the riverbank using a rope.
Worasak Panthong, Mae Sariang district chief, said: 'He was taken to Mae Sariang Hospital for treatment. He suffered bruises after being struck by branches in the water. The latest report is that he is safe and able to return home.'
'He explained that he fell in while trying to collect wood washed away by the current, but the water was too strong. Fortunately, officials rescued him in time.'
Bualoi struck Vietnam early Monday morning, with winds reaching 130 km per hour, leaving at least 19 people dead and 88 others injured.
Authorities confirmed that Bualoi triggered at least eight tornadoes across several provinces in Vietnam, including Nam Dinh, Ninh Binh, Hai Phong, Hai Duong, Thanh Hoa, Thai Binh, Quang Ninh, and Hanoi.
In Ninh Binh, the extreme weather left nine people dead and 18 injured. Eleven single-storey houses collapsed, 126 homes were damaged, and 53 utility poles were brought down.
Bualoi had previously caused at least 20 deaths in the Philippines and forced hundreds of thousands of families into evacuation centres.
The Thai Meteorological Department said Bualoi has been downgraded to an active low-pressure system over Laos. It was expected to cause heavy rainfall and flooding in northern regions while moving along the monsoon trough across the region.
The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation said at least seven were killed in floods in Thailand.
