Naseby Reservoir. A Hidden Corner of Northamptonshire.

This is Naseby Reservoir, set within the rolling countryside of Northamptonshire. Like its neighbours at Welford and Sulby, it plays an important role in supplying water to the Welford Arm of the Grand Union Canal.

At the time of filming, the water levels are unusually low, a direct result of this year’s long, hot summer. The dam wall can be clearly seen at the southern edge, holding back the waters that stretch out across the surrounding fields.

To the right of the image, the raised ground in the long field marks the site of the former Hoveringham Quarry. In later years this was repurposed as a Biffa landfill site, adding another layer of industrial history to the area.

Today, Naseby Reservoir offers a striking contrast between the natural beauty of the Northamptonshire countryside and the marks left behind by centuries of human activity.
