A fire erupted at a plastic factory in Bangkok in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Locals reported hearing several explosions before seeing thick black smoke rising into the sky in Bang Khun Thian district around 2:10 am local time on October 2.

Authorities said they were alerted to the incident shortly after the fire began.

Police Lieutenant Pichet Rodyang, Deputy Inspector of Samae Dam Police Station, coordinated with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration's Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office and volunteers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation to dispatch crews to the scene.

Footage shows firefighters battling the flames under the night sky. Teams used five water nozzles and worked for around an hour to bring the blaze under control.

A Cambodian worker, identified as Kos, said he witnessed an electrical short circuit that caused a flash of sparks moments before the fire started.

The flames then quickly spread from the oven area at the front of the factory.

Kos added: 'I tried to put it out but couldn't, so I shouted for everyone to get out.'

More than 10 workers were inside the building at the time. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
