GAINESVILLE, Va. — A 2-month-old kitten is safe thanks to teamwork between Prince William County Animal Services and local firefighters.

On Monday, Sgt. Schultz responded to Heritage Village Plaza after a call reported a kitten trapped about 15 feet down in a window well. Initial attempts to access the kitten through nearby windows failed, prompting a call to the fire department.

Engine 504 B-shift arrived with a ladder and climbed into the well to safely retrieve the young black kitten. The animal is now in the care of the Prince William County Animal Services Center. Officials commended the joint effort that turned a risky situation into a safe rescue.
