VARIOUS OF PALESTINIANS MOVING ALONG THE EVACUATION ROUTE DESPITE DARKNESS GAZA, PALESTINE - OCTOBER 2, 2025: As Israel’s occupation and relentless bombardment of northern Gaza continue, thousands of Palestinians have been forcibly displaced from Gaza City toward the south of the besieged enclave. The mass forced displacement of Palestinian families from Gaza City has continued day and night under Israel’s ongoing air and ground assaults. Footage shows long lines of Palestinians moving south along the coastal Al-Rasheed Street as Israeli forces strike multiple locations across the north. Many displaced families who left Gaza City amid the bombardment say they have been unable to find even the smallest patches of land to pitch tents. With no alternatives, many have taken shelter beside piles of garbage and along roadsides. Health workers warn that the dire and unsanitary conditions in these makeshift areas have led to a surge in skin diseases and infections, particularly among children. Since August, the Israeli army has been seeking to completely evacuate the entire Gaza City under a plan to gradually reoccupy the Gaza Strip. The UN said on Thursday that more than 417,000 people have been displaced from northern Gaza since mid-August, warning of dire and unsafe conditions in the south, where civilians have been told to move by Israeli forces. Between Saturday and Tuesday, the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said: "Some 127,000 people arrived in nearly 360 displacement sites that partners have been able to monitor in Deir al Balah and Khan Younis." Altogether, those sites are now hosting more than half a million people. Noting the dire conditions in the south, the UN agency said it received reports of "intense strikes in recent days in parts of Deir al Balah, one of the places where people have been told to move. Tents, houses, and even a crowded market have been hit, with the UN Human Rights Office reporting that many of those killed appear to be civilians." It also added that families in southern Gaza are "squeezed into overcrowded shelters or makeshift tents along the coast," with many sleeping in the open "amid rubble" and facing "poor sanitation, no privacy or safety, and a high risk of children being separated from their families." Israel has killed over 66,200 Palestinians, most of them women and children, in its ongoing genocide in Gaza since October 2023. The relentless bombardment has rendered the enclave uninhabitable and led to a famine.
