A king cobra was found injured after being mauled by pet dogs in a back garden.

A homeowner witnessed their canines fighting off the deadly 10ft (3m) reptile that had entered their yard in Chanthaburi, Thailand.

The intense standoff reportedly caused one of the pooches to die from the brawl, while the snake sustained bite wounds all over its body.

The family then contacted an animal rescue team to help remove the cobra from the home.

Nerve-wracking footage captured by Theerachai Hariotappa shows a snake wrangler swaying his feet on the ground while staring at the elapid.

Moments later, he extended his hand at the back of the animal before grabbing its head to restrain it on the grassy ground.

Other rescuers then helped pin down the snake while they doused saline to wash the wound and applied Gentian Violet spray.

The king cobra was later placed in a black storage box and reportedly released back into the forest after being treated in a clinic.

Narongdet Chusit, one of the rescuers, said: 'We have to carefully capture the snake and prevent it from being threatened. I advise everyone to notify us when snakes enter their house because these deadly animals are something they should not catch themselves.'

A king cobra's venom can kill 20 people, or an elephant, in a single bite. Its venom affects the respiratory centres in the brain, causing respiratory arrest and cardiac failure.
