This is the shocking moment a crane lifting a 15ft shrine toppled over, crushing the Hindu idol in India.

Footage shows locals surrounding the heavy equipment as it hoisted the massive religious structure, before the vehicle suddenly lost balance and overturned in Rajgarh, Madhya Pradesh.

Reports said the idol - installed by the Kurawar Ki Maharani Committee in Kurawar Ward No 5 - was being taken to a pond for Navratri celebrations.

The crane reportedly tipped over due to the excessive weight of the structure, which was heavily damaged in the incident.

Devotees quickly ran as the shrine collapsed, with some rushing to check on the crane operator.

No serious injuries were reported on October 2.
