Türkiye takes over command of NATO's Kosovo Force

SOLDIERS MARCHING AWAY, CARRYING FLAGS AS PEOPLE WATCH PRISTINA, KOSOVO - OCTOBER 3: Türkiye officially took over the command of NATO's Kosovo Force (KFOR) from Italy for a one-year period in a ceremony held at the KFOR headquarters in Pristina on Friday, Oct. 3. The handover ceremony was attended by Kosovo's President Vjosa Osmani, Prime Minister Albin Kurti, and Turkish Chief of General Staff General Selcuk Bayraktaroglu, along with senior NATO officials and diplomats. The transfer of authority saw Italian Major General Enrico Barduani hand over command to Turkish Major General Ozkan Ulutas, who previously led the mission in 2023-2024. President Osmani praised KFOR's role as "a cornerstone of peace and stability" and reiterated Kosovo's aspiration to join NATO. Major General UlutaS emphasized his commitment to "ensuring a safe environment for all communities" and supporting the dialogue process between Kosovo and Serbia. KFOR, established in 1999, maintains over 4,500 troops from 33 countries. Turkey has contributed to the mission since its inception.
