Explosion Triggers Large Blaze At Chevron Refinery Near LAX
On the night of October 2, 2025, a powerful explosion at the Chevron refinery in El Segundo, just south of LAX, ignited a large industrial fire. Video footage captured by X user Austin Ma shows the blaze from both a moving car and a nearby parking lot.
The footage opens with a ground-level view from inside the vehicle, approaching along a quiet street. Intense orange flames and thick black smoke rise behind chain-link fencing, framed by trees, streetlights, and flashing red emergency lights ahead.
The handheld clip shakes and pans as the fire grows, lighting up the dark night sky. The scene widens to reveal the inferno engulfing a building, with palm trees silhouetted against the fiery glow and smoke spreading across the urban skyline. Parked cars in the foreground highlight the fire’s proximity to nearby neighborhoods.
The explosion occurred around 9:30 p.m., sending a heat blast felt by local residents. Fire crews worked through the night and had contained the blaze by early October 3. No injuries were reported, and no evacuations were necessary.
