US: C8 Corvette Driver Arrested In Florida For 107-MPH Sprint Over Haircut
Welaka, United States - September 23, 2025 A Florida man was arrested after police say he was caught driving his C8 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray convertible at 107 mph. Authorities identified the driver as 57-year-old Michael Stanek of Welaka. The incident occurred under Florida’s new “super speeder” law, which targets drivers exceeding 100 mph or going 50 mph over the speed limit. The law, effective July 1, 2025, carries penalties including up to 30 days in jail, a $500 fine, or both for a first offense. A video posted by the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office shows the Corvette speeding past a parked patrol car. The officer immediately pursued with lights and sirens activated. Stanek eventually pulled over onto the shoulder, exited the vehicle, and was handcuffed after a pat-down. When asked why he was driving so fast, Stanek replied, “I have an appointment with my barber,” adding, “But you know, that car is kinda cool to drive.” The officer informed him that exceeding 100 mph is a criminal offense, and Stanek was taken to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility. He was later released on a $150 bond, and his car was towed. The arrest underscores the strict enforcement of Florida’s “super speeder” law and the serious consequences of driving at extreme speeds, even for seemingly minor reasons.
