A restaurant roof partially collapsed leaving four diners trapped in China.

Footage shows the roof of the third floor caved in amid a downpour in Donghai County, Jiangsu province, on Thursday.

Terrified guests were seen panicking, while the dining hall was strewn with debris.

Emergency services rushed to the scene after four people were reported trapped.

A restaurant staff member said: 'The roof collapsed at 11:30 am, when the cold dishes were served. The pillars, shelves, and decorations on the third floor roof all fell. It happened while four families were hosting a banquet at the hotel.

'After the accident, the ground was flooded. All our staff went inside to rescue people. There were people injured, and the police also arrived.'

In a statement, the emergency management bureau of Donghai County said all four trapped individuals have been rescued.

They said: 'At around 11 am on Thursday, a partial roof collapse occurred on the third floor of a restaurant in Donghai. Public security, fire and emergency response departments immediately launched rescue operations at the scene.

'By around 1 pm, all four trapped individuals had been rescued and sent for medical treatment. Follow-up work is proceeding in an orderly manner, and the cause of the accident is still under further investigation.'
