Israel: Detained Gaza Sumud flotilla activists depart from Israel on special flight

The activists, who were seized during the flotilla's attempt to break the Israeli blockade and deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza, are being repatriated. The flight, operated by Turkish Airlines, was also expected to carry citizens from several countries, including the United States, the United Arab Emirates, Algeria, Morocco, Italy, Kuwait, Libya, Malaysia, Mauritania, Switzerland, Tunisia, and Jordan. In a statement on the U.S. social media platform X, Turkish Foreign Ministry Spokesman Oncu Keceli confirmed the arrangements. He stated that 36 Turkish citizens detained by Israeli forces are expected to return to Türkiye this afternoon. The incident began when the Israeli navy attacked the Global Sumud Flotilla in international waters on the evening of October 1. The flotilla was approaching Gaza waters with the stated aim of breaking the Israeli blockade and delivering humanitarian aid. The Israeli army attacked the vessels, seizing dozens of boats and detaining hundreds of passengers. Reported to be the largest collective flotilla to ever set out for Gaza, the mission ended with the detention of its participants and the seizure of its assets.
