VARIOUS OF PRO-PALESTINE DEMONSTRATORS MARCHING BETWEEN PLACE DE LA REPUBLIQUE AND PLACE DE LA BASTILLE, CARRYING FLAGS, CHANTING, AND HOLDING SIGNS SUPPORTING GAZA AND THE GLOBAL SUMUD FLOTILLAPARIS, FRANCE - OCT. 4: Thousands marched in Paris on Saturday, Oct. 4, to show solidarity with Palestine and demand the release of activists detained by Israel during the Global Sumud Flotilla mission. Demonstrators filled the route from Place de la République to Place de la Bastille, waving Palestinian flags, chanting slogans, and denouncing Israeli actions in Gaza. Israeli naval forces attacked and seized vessels of the Global Sumud Flotilla on Thursday and detained more than 470 activists from over 50 countries. The flotilla had been attempting to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza and challenge Israel’s blockade of the enclave. Israel has maintained the blockade on Gaza, home to nearly 2.4 million people, for almost 18 years. Since October 2023, Israeli bombardments have killed more than 66,000 Palestinians in the enclave, most of them women and children, and rendered it all but uninhabitable.
