US, Los Angeles: Sun Valley Fatal Fiery Crash On 170 Freeway UPDATED
Los Angeles, United States - October 04, 2025 10/04/2025 03:18 am GMT-0700 SUN VALLEY, LOS ANGELES, Calif. – A rollover traffic collision occurred Saturday morning on the southbound 170 Freeway, near the intersection of Sheldon Street. Emergency dispatch received the initial call around 3:18 a.m. regarding a vehicle that had crashed into a tree and landed in a ditch. Upon arrival, first responders reported a black Honda Accord had veered across multiple lanes before colliding with the tree. The vehicle was fully engulfed in flames shortly after the crash. Firefighters from the Los Angeles Fire Department quickly responded and began extinguishing the fire. The collision prompted the California Highway Patrol to issue a Sig Alert for the southbound 5 Freeway transitioning to the southbound 170, restricting all lanes except for the high-occupancy vehicle lane due to the ongoing incident. By 3:40 a.m., the California Department of Transportation was requested for a hard closure of the transition road, as the situation developed on the freeway. Traffic was further hindered by the need for a tow truck, which was requested around 4:09 a.m. Despite the extensive emergency response, it was unclear whether any occupants were inside the vehicle at the time of the fire. The investigation into the circumstances of the collision is ongoing. UPDATE: One person was pronounced deceased at the scene, according to LAFD radio traffic at 3:16 a.m.
