VARIOUS OF MEDICAL SUPPLIES BEING UNLOADED BY WHO TEAMGAZA STRIP, PALESTINE - OCT. 5: A World Health Organization (WHO) team delivered a truckload of medicine to Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in northern Gaza on Sunday, Oct. 5, as critical shortages persist under Israel’s blockade. The team traveled north from southern Gaza via Al-Rashid Street — a route frequently used by displaced Palestinians fleeing in the opposite direction — and transported the bodies of two Palestinians discovered along the roadside to a hospital morgue. Gaza Civil Defense spokesperson Mahmoud Basal said the delivery of medical aid marked a rare lifeline for the besieged facility, which continues to operate under extreme conditions amid constant bombardment. Israel has maintained a blockade on Gaza, home to nearly 2.4 million people, for almost 18 years. Since October 2023, Israeli bombardment has killed nearly 66,300 Palestinians, most of them women and children. The UN and rights groups have repeatedly warned that the enclave is being rendered uninhabitable, with starvation and disease spreading rapidly. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
