This is the dramatic moment police raced through Bangkok to help deliver a heart to a hospital for a life-saving transplant.

Footage shows the fleet of motorcycle-riding officers clearing the road for an ambulance carrying the donated organ to Siriraj Hospital on October 2.

Sirens wailed as other drivers were warned to give way and let the emergency convoy pass.

The ambulance arrived at 8:14 pm local time, just 17 minutes after leaving Don Mueang International Airport, giving surgeons around two hours to perform the critical procedure.

The Bangkok Traffic Police (Royal Initiative Project) said the heart belonged to teenage donor Sutiwat ‘Potae' Thothong, 16, who was brain-dead following an accident.

His family decided to turn off life-support machines and donate his viable organs, including his heart, kidneys, and eyes, to the Thai Red Cross to help five patients awaiting transplants.

The heart was flown in from Buddhachinaraj Hospital in Phitsanulok, arriving at Don Mueang Airport at around 2 pm. Police then guided the ambulance through traffic, completing the journey to Siriraj Hospital within 17 minutes.

Officials said it was the 142nd heart delivered to the hospital with assistance from the traffic police under the initiative.
