Driver rams into Buddhist temple wall during funeral
This is the shocking moment a car rammed into a temple wall during a funeral in Thailand.
The driver was going home after the ceremony but mistakenly stepped on the accelerator while pulling out of the car park in Phayao province.
CCTV footage shows the grey Toyota hurtling past wooden pavillions before slamming into a wall at the Wat Chiang Thong temple on October 4.
Locals rushed over and checked on the driver after hearing the crash. The vehicle was later removed for damage inspection.
A temple worker said: 'No one was injured, but the car and parts of the wall were damaged.'
Despite being one of the wealthiest countries in Asia, Thailand suffers from chronic underinvestment in its highways and education, contributing to its poor road safety levels. Only a handful of African countries are worse.
Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.
