Trump Depicted as ‘Asura’ in West Bengal Durga Puja Pandal Over Tariffs and Visa Policies

A Durga Puja pandal in Baharampur, West Bengal, has drawn widespread attention for depicting former US President Donald Trump as the ‘asura’ or demon.
Organisers from the Khagra Shmashanghat Durga Puja Committee said the portrayal symbolizes anger over Trump’s recent decisions, including a 50% tariff on Indian goods and tightened visa regulations.
Committee member Pratik told Ananda Bazar that the move was a reaction to what they saw as Trump’s betrayal of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s friendship.
The striking idol, crafted by local artist Asim Pal, was inaugurated in the presence of Narugopal Mukhopadhyay, Chairman of Baharampur Municipality, and has since become a major talking point among visitors.
