SHOTLIST: AMSTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS (OCT. 6, 2025) (ANADOLU - ACCESS ALL) 1. VARIOUS OF SUPPORTERS AT SCHIPHOL AIRPORT WAITING FOR ACTIVISTS, CHANTING SLOGANS, AND HOLDING BANNERS AND PALESTINIAN FLAGS 2. VARIOUS OF FOUR DUTCH ACTIVISTS FROM GLOBAL SUMUD FLOTILLA ARRIVING 3. VARIOUS OF ACTIVISTS EMBRACING WITH SUPPORTERS AND BEING LIFTED ON SHOULDERS BY SUPPORTERS 4. (SOUNDBITE) (English) ROOS YKEMA, DUTCH ACTIVIST, SAYING: "So on Thursday morning, we were kidnapped by Israeli soldiers, and they entered our boats what we were in international waters, trying to reach Gaza… … they left us in the sun. They left us without the water. They refused medication. Some people were beaten up. And now we are the first ones. Some of the first ones that were deported from Israel back to the Netherlands. And, I wish that we had broken the siege, but I am sure that we will keep on pushing and more boats will go and Palestine will be free." 5. (SOUNDBITE) (English) MOHAMED ABO NASER, ANOTHER ACTIVIST, SAYING: "The peaceful participants of Global Sumud flotilla were treated in very, very bad way. We have been intimidated for the last four days. And the first two days we didn't get the chance to get to drink water. And even in the other days, we were getting the food in a way that the guards won't like. We didn't know when the food would come or we would then we didn't know how much food we are getting. We didn't get the chance to go to outside ourselves, to see the sun or walk. And we didn't get the chance to see our lawyers or contact our embassies. At the same time, some of the participants who needed urgent medication on urgent emergency medical support, we didn't get the chance to get to some of the participants needed insulin. And we were shouting all 16 cells that. Do you need insulin for this cell? But no answer, which was like it was a life risk for this person who needed that insulin. At the moment. At the same time, we were like treated in a very racist way, that the people of colour and the people with Muslim or our background, they were taken away from their cells for no reason. And we didn't know when or where they will get back. Also, the people from Palestinian backgrounds with other passports were also treated in a very, very bad way. They were like some of us were tied, like our hands were cuffed, on our back. We were blind. We couldn't see anything. We were transported in very bad ways and in small buses with very high, very high temperature or with very low temperature. They were playing with the temperature while we were sitting on that cell bus. And at the same time, because of the because you cannot see anything, your noise is also covered, that you cannot breathe normally. At some moment you feel that you cannot breathe. We were transported in very bad ways and in small buses with very high temperature or with very low temperature. They were playing with the temperature while we were sitting on that cell bus. And at the same time, because of the because you cannot see anything, your noise is also covered, that you cannot breathe normally. At some moment you feel that you can't breathe. At some moment you feel that you are going to die because you can't breath. But at the end, we made it and we have a message to the guards and the prison where we were, and also to the Israeli government and also to the minister, mainly children who have been there twice. We are coming back with more ships, with more people, and we will not get enough from breaking the siege…"AMSTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS - OCT. 6: Dutch activists recounted mistreatment and abuses by Israeli forces after being detained aboard an aid flotilla seeking to challenge an illegal blockade on the Gaza Strip. Four Dutch activists reached Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport via Spain on Monday, Oct. 6, with support from the Netherlands’ embassy in Madrid. The activists had attempted to break the blockade of Gaza and deliver humanitarian aid when their vessel was intercepted in international waters. One of them Roos Ykema said at the airport that they were detained by Israeli soldiers on October 2. “As we continued sailing in international waters, they stormed our boat. Our only goal was to create a humanitarian corridor to Gaza and break the blockade,” she said. Ykema said that Israeli soldiers had taken them to prison, where they were left under the sun without access to water, food, or medical treatment. She claimed that some members of the group were subjected to violence. Ykema added that they were the first group to be deported from Israel to the Netherlands. Ykema underlined that the flotilla’s journey to Gaza would continue and that Palestine would be free. “The fleets will keep sailing to Gaza, and Palestine will be free,” she stressed. Another activist Mohamed Abo Naser told how they were subjected to mistreatment. "For the first two days, we had no chance to drink water. On other days, food was given in whatever way the guards wanted. We did not know when food would come, we did not know how much food would be given. We had no chance to go outside, see the sun, or walk,” he said. Abo Naser concluded with a message to Israeli officials: “In the end, we made it. We have a message to the guards in the prison we were held in, to the Israeli government, and to Itamar Ben Gvir, who came there twice. We are coming back with more ships, with more people, and we will not stop at breaking the siege. From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free.” Israeli naval forces attacked and seized vessels of the Global Sumud Flotilla late Wednesday and detained more than 470 activists from over 50 countries. The flotilla had been attempting to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza and challenge Israel’s blockade of the enclave. Israel has maintained the blockade of Gaza, home to nearly 2.4 million people, for almost 18 years. Since October 2023, Israeli bombardments have killed more than 67,000 Palestinians in the enclave, most of them women and children, and rendered it uninhabitable, with the blockade also pushing Gaza to famine.
