Runaway Truck Crashes Into Bus in Interlagos (SP - Brazil); Driver Was Drunk
A runaway truck collided with the side of a public transport bus on Avenida Interlagos, in front of the Interlagos Racetrack, in the South Zone of São Paulo.
A video recorded by a driver following right behind shows the truck swerving in a zigzag and nearly jumping onto the sidewalk before the crash. Passengers are seen quickly getting off the bus in the midst of the scare.
According to the Public Security Secretariat (SSP), the 33-year-old driver did not stop after the collision and fled the scene. During the search, the Municipal Civil Guard (GCM) located the truck driver, who had hit four other cars while escaping. A 37-year-old woman was injured and remains hospitalized at Grajaú General Hospital.
The suspect showed signs of intoxication, was taken for medical care, and then taken to the police station. He was arrested in the act and remains in custody at the disposal of the courts.
The case was registered at the 11th Police District of Santo Amaro as drunk driving, reckless bodily injury while driving, and fleeing the scene of an accident. The police authority requested forensic analysis from the Criminalistics Institute (IC) and an examination from the Forensic Medical Institute (IML).
