Flights continued without major cancellations, although minor delays were reported. Officials indicated they were working to restore tower staffing by 10 p.m. The shutdown, which has entered its sixth day, is beginning to strain the aviation system as more controllers and security workers call out. The FAA has reported staffing slowdowns at several major airports, including those in Denver, Detroit, and Phoenix. Approximately 13,000 controllers and 61,000 TSA employees are still working without pay.
