American tourist sparks outrage hurling x-rated abuse at coffee shop staff 'over high price'
An American tourist sparked outrage when she hurled abuse at staff over the prices at a coffee shop in Thailand.
Sima Silberberg, 29, from New York, burst into a rant after complaining her 105 Baht (3.23 USD) matcha latte was overpriced.
When staff explained that the prices were clearly listed on the menu and that she was free to go to a different cafe, the entitled tourist reportedly began insulting them.
Footage shows her recording the customers inside The Hope Cafe before she was kicked out on September 30.
Another clip showed her displaying her Star of David nape tattoo and making obscene gestures at the other patrons. She said: 'Shame on you. You laughing? You think it's funny? F*** you, suck my d***.'
She later continued filming her vlog while walking down the street, claiming: 'They saw my Star of David tattoo and they said that oh you're Jewish, we don't want to serve you.'
Staff reported Sima's behaviour to the police, who later tracked her down and told her to delete the social media videos. The tourist complied, before complaining the locals were 'anti-semitic'.
In a later video, she said: 'Thailand is a great place and all, it's cheap, but some of the people... I'm just getting out of the country now. The police told me I have to delete my videos of what happened.'
Police Colonel Pasawin Kaewtai, superintendent of Pai Police Station, said: 'The coffee shop's owner wanted to file a report as a daily record for evidence. The tourist police is the department that facilitated communication. They did not bring her to the station.
'According to our background check, this female tourist has a history of mental health issues and previously stayed at Suanprung Psychiatric Hospital in Chiang Mai before coming to Pai.'
The officer added that investigations were ongoing after police learned that Sima had allegedly been capturing OnlyFans content in public areas in Pai.
One picture shows her in a provocative pose at a local landmark, the Kho Ku So Bamboo Bridge, while directing viewers to her profile on the adult site.
However, police said that Sima has already flown out of the country through Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok on October 4.
The owner of The Hope Cafe added: 'During the argument, a Thai customer entered the shop and offered to help translate for the tourist. We explained the situation to him, and then the tourist suddenly said ‘This shop doesn't serve Jewish people.' That is absolutely untrue — our cafe welcomes customers of all nationalities and has never refused anyone.
'The tourist then began shouting profanities at me, including ‘f** you'* and ‘f** Thailand,'* and made comments like ‘my friend is a Muay Thai fighter.' Another customer sitting nearby laughed, which made her even angrier. She started arguing with everyone and swearing at people in the cafe.
'The tourist also filmed everyone inside — including unrelated customers — and posted the footage to her Instagram story, tagging people's faces. Naturally, the customers were not okay with that.
'She later posted a video showing a wound on her leg, claiming it was caused by people in our café. But it was actually an old injury that had nothing to do with us. We went to report the false accusation to the police, who then coordinated with the tourist police.
'What upset us most was that she filmed our faces and accused us of things we never did. The tourist police went to find her at the Israeli church and told her to delete the clip, but they didn't bring her in to talk with us. So, the matter went nowhere, and the local police couldn't take any further action.'
In August 2016, Sima and another suspect, Moshe Blitzstein, were arrested in the US after Ramapo police raided their bungalow and seized half a pound of marijuana, cannabis wax, ecstasy, and drug paraphernalia. They were released on bail and charged with multiple drug possession offences.
In December 2022, she was again arrested in Miami-Dade County, Florida, for trespassing after a warning and released on a 1,000 USD bond.
Unrest broke out in the northern tourist town of Pai earlier this year as residents claimed thousands of Israeli tourists and settlers were overwhelming the once-quiet region.
Then-Thai premier Paetongtarn Shinawatra assured the locals there were no plans to turn the town into a new 'promised land'.
She said: 'We've already verified that this is not true.'
