DOCTORS WITHOUT BORDERS (MSF) GAZA EMERGENCY COORDINATOR AITOR ZABALGOGEAZKOA SPEAKING (English)GENEVA, SWITZERLAND - OCTOBER 7: Doctors Without Borders (MSF) Gaza Emergency Coordinator Aitor Zabalgogeazkoa said some hospitals targeted by Israel in Gaza have become completely unusable, adding that even hospitals that are still partially operational cannot be reached by civilians. Speaking about the genocide carried out by Israel in Gaza since October 8, 2023, Zabalgogeazkoa said that during this period, health workers and organizations have faced numerous challenges in maintaining supplies and capacity. He noted that medical staff, like all civilians, are suffering from the devastating consequences of the war. Zabalgogeazkoa said 15 MSF staff members have been killed over the past two years. He added that hospitals supported by MSF in Gaza are operating far beyond their capacity, but it is impossible to meet the overwhelming medical needs. Zabalgogeazkoa emphasized that Gaza’s health infrastructure has been severely damaged, with some hospitals rendered completely unusable. He said there are hospitals that can still provide limited services, but right now it’s extremely difficult for people to reach them. Since Oct. 7, 2023, the Israeli military has killed over 67,100 Palestinians, most of them women and children, in Gaza. The relentless bombardment has rendered the enclave all but uninhabitable and has led to mass displacement, starvation, and the proliferation of disease. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
