A video recorded by a witness shows the school bus completely destroyed, with only the shell of the vehicle left after the fire that frightened residents on Espírito Santo Street, in Porto Alegre.

According to the Fire Department, the bus got entangled in power lines around 4 p.m. The driver got out to check the situation, but the vehicle lost its brakes and rolled downhill out of control, colliding with about ten parked cars before catching fire.

The bus, which had departed from the city of Vacaria for a school activity, was carrying 55 teenagers aged between 16 and 17, along with two teachers. Despite the scare, there were no serious injuries. According to Porto Alegre’s Health Department, 12 people received medical care, including residents of a building affected by the flames.

Fire crews managed to contain the blaze and evacuate the nearby four-story building, preventing a larger tragedy.
