Participants performed the absentee prayer for the souls of those killed in Gaza, affirming that their sacrifices would remain alive in the conscience of the nation. Palestinian flags were raised, along with banners emphasizing the right of the Palestinian people to resist occupation. Chants called for an end to the long-standing blockade imposed on the Strip. Organizers stated that the commemoration served to renew their pledge of steadfastness and resilience alongside the people of Gaza in the face of the ongoing Israeli aggression. The Israeli military's operations in Gaza since October 2023 have led to widespread destruction, mass displacement, and a severe humanitarian crisis in the region. Over 67,000 Palestinians have been killed in Israel’s genocidal war on the Gaza Strip since October 2023. The Israeli army resumed its attacks on the Gaza Strip on March 18 and has since killed 13,420 people and injured 57,124 others, shattering a ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement that took hold in January. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
