The demonstrations, held in major cities including Utrecht, Amsterdam, and Rotterdam, aimed to draw attention to the humanitarian crisis in the occupied territories on the second anniversary of Israel’s attacks in Gaza. In Utrecht, protesters gathered at the central train station carrying Palestinian flags and calling for an end to Israel’s ongoing genocide. Participants also expressed their discontent with the Dutch government, accusing it of supporting Israel. Speakers emphasized that the alleged genocide has continued for two years and criticized the ineffectiveness of international law. Protesters held banners reading “Stop the Genocide” and “Justice Now,” as they chanted slogans expressing solidarity with Palestine. After the sit-in, demonstrators marched through city centers, including inside the Hoog Catharijn shopping mall in Utrecht, before concluding their actions. Israel has maintained the blockade of Gaza, home to nearly 2.4 million people, for almost 18 years. Since October 2023, Israeli military operations have killed more than 67,000 Palestinians in Gaza, most of them women and children. The relentless bombardment has rendered the enclave all but uninhabitable, with widespread starvation and the spread of disease.
