United States - October 03, 2025 Last Friday night, Lee County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to Yellow Fever Creek Preserve to assist a park ranger in locating a missing hiker. The hiker, 85-year-old Dora Weltlinger, had become disoriented while walking along a trail and was reported missing. Deputies on the ground combed through dense wooded areas while the Aviation Unit provided aerial support, coordinating closely to cover the preserve’s thick vegetation. After an extensive search combining aerial and ground efforts, Weltlinger was found tired but in good spirits. EMS arrived on scene to assess her condition. Sheriff’s Office praised the teamwork involved, saying the quick, coordinated response ensured a safe outcome. Special recognition went to park ranger Jesse, who stayed on the phone with Weltlinger for hours, keeping her calm and relaying vital information that helped guide rescuers.
