Locals were amazed by hundreds of hot air balloons flying over homes in Albuquerque.

Dramatic footage shows dozens of radiant balloons in vivid colours - some decorated with American flag motifs of red, white, and blue - rising gracefully into the sky on October 6.

Unique shapes, including a VW bus, banana, and watermelon, floated above parked cars, trees, roads, and open fields under a clear blue sky and golden morning light.

On its third day, two balloons briefly came into contact with power lines, causing a brief electrical outage and suspending flights for approximately 30 minutes.

No injuries were reported, and the festivities soon resumed, continuing the vibrant celebration.

The wonder was part of the 53rd annual Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, held in New Mexico from October 4 to 12.

Authorities said the event draws more than 1,000 pilots and around 500,000 visitors over nine days of breathtaking displays.

Spectators enjoy the daily Dawn Patrol previews, the grand Mass Ascensions at sunrise, whimsical Special Shape Rodeos with designs like dinosaurs and castles, evening Glowdeos where balloons light up to music, and a finale of fireworks.
