Fernando Sabag Montiel faces a 15-year prison request as the alleged gunman; his former partner, Brenda Uliarte, is being sought for 14 years; and Nicolas Carrizo is expected to be acquitted, amid scant evidence tying him to the event. In 2022, a man pointed a gun at Kirchner while she was greeting supporters in front of her Buenos Aires residence. The man pulled the trigger inches from her head but the gun failed to discharge, making a "clicking" noise. Kirchner served as the president of Argentina from 2007 to 2015. In June this year, a federal judge ruled Kirchner would serve a six-year sentence on corruption charges under house arrest. The court determined that placing the 72-year-old Kirchner under house arrest was appropriate, citing her age and prominence as a political figure. It also referenced security concerns, noting Kirchner’s survival of a 2022 assassination attempt, and said that her safety “would become complex in a situation of prison confinement in coexistence with any type of prison population.”
