Controversy over ICE's appearance at the Chapin Festival in Los Angeles
The Chapin Festival in Los Angeles is a non-profit organization returning for its 9th edition.
The festival spans a seven-block stretch in the heart of the Guatemalan community in Lafayette Park. It is a two-day community event, open to the public and free of charge. Attendees can experience vibrant Guatemalan music, engaging arts and crafts, and delicious Chapin cuisine.
There has been controversy surrounding the Guatemalan festival due to fears of an ICE appearance. Festival manager Walter Rosales states that there will be private security, community groups, legal experts, a delegation of Guatemalan deputies for migrant protection, and support from the Los Angeles government.
The director of the Guatemalan bank "Banrural," Juan Luis Fonseca, also appeared at the event. He announced that the housing fair will be held for the first time in Guatemala.
The Chapín Los Angeles Festival is completely free and open to all ages. It attracts a multicultural audience annually from throughout Southern California. Food, drinks, arts and crafts, and more are available for purchase.
