Israel: Israeli settlers storm Al-Aqsa Mosque during Sukkot holiday
SHOTLIST: JERUSALEM (OCT. 9, 2025) (ANADOLU – ACCESS ALL) 1. ISRAELI FLAG ON POLE (TWO SHOTS) 2. VARIOUS OF ILLEGAL SETTLERS STORMING AL-AQSA MOSQUEJERUSALEM - OCT. 9, 2025: Illegal Israeli settlers, escorted by police, stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in Jerusalem on Thursday, Oct. 9, during the third day of the Sukkot holiday. The Jewish New Year runs from Monday through Wednesday, followed by Yom Kippur on Oct. 1, and Sukkot beginning Oct. 6. Incursions into the mosque compound typically escalate during Jewish holidays, and visits by ministers and members of the Knesset take place with the approval of the Israeli prime minister following requests submitted for that purpose. The incursions into Al-Aqsa have increased alongside Israel's genocidal war in the Gaza Strip since October 2023, as well as military operations in the occupied West Bank. Al-Aqsa Mosque is the world's third-holiest site for Muslims. Jews call the area Temple Mount, claiming it was the site of two Jewish temples in ancient times. Israel occupied East Jerusalem, where Al-Aqsa is located, during the 1967 Arab-Israeli War. It annexed the entire city in 1980 in a move never recognized by the international community.
