ELECTION CAMPAIGN POSTERS (TWO SHOTS)BAGHDAD, IRAQ - OCT. 6, 2025: Iraq’s political rivalry is heating up ahead of the Nov. 11 parliamentary elections, with more than 7,700 candidates — including 2,248 women — vying for the support of about 21 million eligible voters. Although official campaigning began Oct. 3, posters and billboards had already flooded city streets, many omitting names or list numbers to skirt penalties. Campaign efforts range from large public gatherings and lavish meals to local service projects such as road repairs and transformer replacements. The Iraqi Strategic Human Rights Center said over one million posters appeared within the first two days of the campaign, particularly in Baghdad’s Rusafa district, many on medians and public buildings. The group urged the Independent High Electoral Commission to enforce regulations. Public sentiment remains mixed: some voters plan to boycott over distrust of candidates, while others see voting as a civic duty essential to electing competent representatives.
