The military presence has been intensified since Wednesday, Oct. 8, to secure the area for Israeli settlers visiting the Ibrahimi Mosque, known to Jews as the Cave of the Patriarchs. The Israeli military had announced the closure of the Ibrahimi Mosque to Palestinian worshippers from Wednesday until Thursday evening to allow for holiday events. Military checkpoints and electronic gates leading to the mosque were also reinforced, and soldiers were deployed at all entrances. For the third consecutive day, a curfew was imposed on the Jaber, Salaymeh, Ghaith, and Wadi al-Hussein neighborhoods, which are adjacent to the Kiryat Arba settlement east of Hebron. The restrictions also impacted daily life in other parts of the city. According to local sources, the Israeli military tightened measures in the Tel Rumeida neighborhood, Shuhada Street, and Jabal al-Rahma, preventing school students from reaching their schools. Some markets in the Old City were also closed. Sukkot, also known as the Feast of Tabernacles or Feast of Booths, is a Torah-commanded Jewish holiday celebrated for seven days, beginning on the 15th day of the month of Tishrei.
