This is the dramatic moment dozens of hot air balloons prepared to fly at dawn during a festival in Albuquerque.

Footage shows brilliantly coloured balloons inflating as the sun rose over the launch field in New Mexico.

The burners ignited in bursts, lighting up the giant envelopes in flashes of orange, blue, and red.

The spectacle was part of the 53rd annual Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, held in New Mexico from October 4 to 12.

On its third day, two balloons briefly came into contact with power lines, causing a brief electrical outage and suspending flights for approximately 30 minutes.

No injuries were reported, and the festivities soon resumed, continuing the vibrant celebration.

Authorities said the event draws more than 1,000 pilots and around 500,000 visitors over nine days of breathtaking displays.

Spectators enjoy the daily Dawn Patrol previews, the grand Mass Ascensions at sunrise, whimsical Special Shape Rodeos with designs like dinosaurs and castles, evening Glowdeos where balloons light up to music, and a finale of fireworks.
