Philippines earthquake shakes swimming pool as tremors rock buildings
A swimming pool shook as a magnitude 7.5 earthquake rocked buildings in the Philippines.
CCTV footage shows water sloshing out of the pool as the tremor jolted a home in Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis Oriental province, today.
Officials warned that aftershocks were expected. There was also a tsunami warning issued, with large waves expected across the region, including in neighbouring Indonesia.
State seismological agency PHIVOLCS said the offshore earthquake struck 44 kilometres (27 miles) northeast of Manay town in Davao Oriental province at 9:43 am local time. It was recorded offshore at a depth of 20 kilometres (12 miles).
Intensity V was felt in the commercial centre of Davao City, while Intensity IV tremors were felt in Bislig City, Surigao del Sur.
PHIVOLCS said damage and aftershocks were expected.
Residents in coastal areas were advised to immediately evacuate as the agency issued a tsunami warning.
PHIVOLCS said: 'Based on the local tsunami scenario database, it is expected to experience wave heights of more than one meter above the normal tides and may be higher on enclosed bays and straits.
'It is forecasted that the first tsunami waves will arrive between 09:43:54 to 11:43:54, 10 Oct 2025 (PST). These waves may continue for hours.'
It is the second major tremor to hit the country. Last week, another deadly earthquake killed at least 74 people in Cebu province, central Philippines.
The Philippines is an archipelago of more than 7,000 islands inside the Pacific 'Ring of Fire' where the majority of Earth's volcanic eruptions and earthquakes happen.
