President of the Commonwealth of Dominica Sylvanie Burton arrived in Beijing on Saturday afternoon to attend the upcoming Global Leaders' Meeting on Women, scheduled to take place in the Chinese capital from Oct. 13 to 14. The summit will be convened on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the 1995 World Conference on Women, also held in Beijing. As the first female president of the Caribbean nation, Burton emphasized that the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, adopted at the 1995 World Conference on Women, has been a powerful catalyst for global progress on gender equality and women's empowerment. She noted that since then, the government of Dominica has mandated that every budget allocation clearly demonstrate how it contributes to empowering women or advancing gender equality.
