Stolen Bus Nearly Hits First Responders on Colorado’s I-70
IDAHO SPRINGS, Colo. — A stolen Clear Creek County Roundabout bus barreled through an active crash scene on Interstate 70 Friday, narrowly missing multiple first responders before striking a police vehicle, according to the Idaho Springs Police Department.
Officers were investigating a separate crash near mile marker 240.75 when dispatch alerted them that a bus had been stolen out of Georgetown. Moments later, the bus appeared at a high rate of speed, nearly stopping at the crash site before suddenly accelerating toward emergency personnel.
The driver weaved through a tow truck and fire truck, entered a closed express lane where Colorado Department of Transportation workers were assisting, and continued speeding toward officers and firefighters. The bus then struck an Idaho Springs patrol car before fleeing eastbound.
No injuries were reported, though the patrol vehicle sustained significant damage. The investigation remains ongoing.
