Boulder Police Arrest Reckless Driver Accused of DUI, Hit-and-Run
BOULDER, Colo. — A driver accused of endangering the public by speeding through city streets, hitting another vehicle, and nearly striking a cyclist while allegedly drinking behind the wheel was arrested Tuesday afternoon, according to the Boulder Police Department.
The incident began around 1 p.m. when officers received multiple reports of a man driving recklessly and yelling at pedestrians near 20th Street and Broadway. Shortly after, callers reported that the driver had struck another car and fled the scene. Another witness claimed the driver was drinking from a beer bottle while driving.
The situation escalated when the vehicle was seen on a bike path, narrowly missing a cyclist. Officer Baddley located the suspect on Baseline Road and, with the help of Officer West, safely stopped the vehicle before further harm occurred.
Police said the driver’s blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit. He was arrested and booked into jail on multiple charges, including DUI, reckless driving, hit and run, resisting arrest, and felony vehicular eluding.
Boulder Police reminded residents that impaired driving endangers lives, emphasizing that enforcement efforts have increased this year. “There’s no excuse to drive impaired,” the department said. “We will find and arrest you.”
