5. EXTERIOR SHOT OF DAMAGED BUILDING ZAPORIZHZHIA, UKRAINE (OCT. 10. 2025) (USERS MUST CREDIT “ZAPORIZHZHIA REGIONAL MILITARY ADMINISTRATION” HANDOUT —EDITORIAL USE ONLY) Ukraine said on Friday, Oct.10, that at least one person was killed and 20 others were injured due to overnight Russian airstrikes, which also caused damage to local infrastructure in its capital Kyiv.
“As of now, more than 20 people across the country have been reported injured – all are receiving the necessary assistance. Sadly, a child was killed in Zaporizhzhia as a result of the attack,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said through the US social media company X regarding the attack.
Expressing that recovery efforts are ongoing at many critical infrastructure sites following the attack, which it said targeted the country’s energy sector, Zelenskyy defined the strikes as a “cynical and calculated” attack.
He said that repair crews are working to restore power and water supply in Kyiv, while power outages have been reported in multiple regions, including Donetsk, Chernihiv, Cherkasy, Kharkiv, Sumy, Poltava, Odesa, and Dnipropetrovsk.
“It is precisely the civilian and energy infrastructure that is the main target of Russia’s strikes ahead of the heating season. Together, we can protect people from this terror,” Zelenskyy added, calling for “decisive action” from Ukraine’s partners, including the US, in delivering air defense systems to Ukraine and enforcing further sanctions on Moscow.
“We count on a response to this brutality from the G20 and from all those who speak of peace in their statements yet refrain from taking real steps,” he noted.
In Kyiv, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said on Telegram that 12 people were injured in the Ukrainian capital following the attack, of which eight have been hospitalized.
Meanwhile, Tymur Tkachenko, the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, said more than 5,800 residential buildings are without electricity.
Elsewhere, Ukraine’s Air Force claimed that its air defenses shot down 405 out of 465 drones, as well as 15 out of 32 various types of missiles, launched by Russia overnight.
Russian authorities have not immediately commented on the attack.
