The Israeli military said on Monday morning that seven hostages are now in Israeli custody after over two years of captivity in the Gaza Strip, making them the first group released under a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas. Red Cross vehicles received the seven released Israeli detainees in the northern part of the Gaza Strip Monday morning and then handed them over to the Israel Defense Forces stationed there. The freed detainees were first brought to the Re'im Military Base inside Israel, where Israeli police officers, security forces personnel, medical staff and ambulances had been put on standby at the scene. After undergoing medical assessments and necessary inquires, the seven Israelis will be sent to their loved ones. Hamas and Israel on Oct 9 reached a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, which came into effect later on Oct 10 following the Israeli government's approval of the resolution. The ceasefire agreement followed days of negotiations in Egypt that included a prisoner exchange and plans to reopen border crossings and allow aid into Gaza.
