Starmer Arrives In Egypt Ahead Of Gaza Peace Plan Summit. Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has arrived in Egypt ahead of an international summit in Sharm El-Sheikh, where the Gaza peace plan is set to be signed. Downing Street said Starmer will pay “particular tribute” to US President Donald Trump, who brokered the first phase of the ceasefire and hostage return deal between Israel and Hamas. The ceasefire came into effect on Friday, with both sides agreeing to initial terms, while further phases remain to be negotiated. The summit on Monday will be led by Trump and Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, with leaders from more than 20 countries in attendance. Under phase one of the agreement, Hamas has until Monday to release all Israeli hostages, including 20 believed alive and the remains of up to 28 deceased. Israel is expected to release around 250 Palestinian prisoners and 1,700 detainees from Gaza, while aid deliveries into the territory are set to increase. Later phases will focus on more complex issues, including Gaza’s governance, Israeli troop withdrawals, and Hamas disarmament.
