Storyline: New launches power sales in China's electronics market [Voice_over] In China, demand for consumer electronics is heating up as brands roll out new products in time for the autumn shopping season. Since early September, tech firms like Huawei and Apple have been unveiling new smartphones and tablets. Others, including OnePlus, are set to release their new models in the coming weeks. At Huaqiangbei in Shenzhen, a major electronics hub, shoppers are eager to take advantage of subsidies that also driving retail sales of consumer electronic goods. [Sound_bite] Consumer: "I'm here to buy some power banks and earphones to use in my dormitory. I was told there are student subsidies." [Voice_over] Merchants at the market say those incentives plus the departure tax refund policy have been boosting sales significantly. [Sound_bite] Shop owner: "In the first half of the year, the national subsidy program significantly boosted our sales, by approximately 30 to 40 percent. Every morning, crowds gathered at our store to snatch up discount coupons. It was quite a big scene. We are currently running another promotion, which is tax refunds for overseas visitors. Many international friends, as well as consumers from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the Macao Special Administrative Region and Taiwan region, can purchase products at our store by presenting their valid travel documents." [Voice_over] Besides smartphones and tablets, smart glasses are also seeing explosive growth with data showing a nearly 150 percent year-on-year increase in sales in H1.
