Storyline: China debuts world's mightiest centrifuge, unleashing ultra-intense gravity [Voice_over] Scientists in east China's Zhejiang Province have just launched what's being called the world's largest centrifuge by capacity, CHIEF1300. The centrifuge will be a key part of the Centrifugal Hypergravity and Interdisciplinary Experiment Facility, or CHIEF, which is still under construction. Scientists say the machine can generate 300 times the Earth's gravity with a 20 ton load and is already conducting experiments. In one case, an earthquake was simulated to test the foundation of a hydropower dam, and in another, a 20-meter tsunami was recreated to test the seabed foundation of offshore wind turbines. Hyper-gravity is defined as any gravitational force stronger than the Earth's. For example, on a roller-coaster, riders briefly endure 2Gs, or twice the Earth's gravity, when they feel pressed against their seats after an upsidedown loop.
