China: Youth in Beijing reflect on female role models ahead of Global Leaders' Meeting on Women

As China is ready to host the Global Leaders' Meeting on Women in Beijing to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the 1995 World Conference on Women, young people both from home and abroad in the capital city are reflecting on the female role models who have shaped their lives. The meeting, co-hosted by China and the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN WOMEN), will be held from Monday to Tuesday. China Global Television Network (CGTN) took to the streets in Beijing to discuss female role models with youth ahead of the meeting which will gather heads of state, government leaders, parliamentary leaders, deputy prime ministers, ministerial officials, leaders of international organizations, and friendly personnel from various continents. One of the interviewees, a young woman surnamed Zhang, said her mother is her female role model. A student surnamed Xiong said that her mother and some female teachers have powerfully influenced her. A foreign student in Beijing surnamed Luz credited her mother as a guiding force in chasing her dreams. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing, which adopted the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action.
