US, Los Angeles: Malibu Road Closure Ahead of Predicted Rainstorm
Los Angeles, United States - October 14, 2025 10/13/2025 10:00 pm GMT-0700 MALIBU, Calif. – Caltrans crews will close a 3.6-mile stretch of Topanga Canyon Boulevard, also known as State Route 27, between Pacific Coast Highway and Grand View Drive on Monday at 10 p.m. The closure will run until 5 a.m. Tuesday, in anticipation of predicted rainstorms. This section of SR-27 is currently an active work zone, undergoing recovery efforts from the Palisades Fire and subsequent winter storms. It is already closed to the public daily from midnight to 5 a.m. Also on Monday, crews took additional precautions to prepare for the storm by moving equipment, setting up K-rail and sandbags, and stabilizing existing retaining walls. These efforts are part of ongoing recovery projects on SR-27 and Pacific Coast Highway related to the past fire and storms. Caltrans will continue to monitor conditions into the morning and evaluate reopening the highway at 5 a.m. Tuesday, based on rainfall amounts. The National Weather Service has forecasted up to 1.5 inches of rain for coastal and valley areas and 2 to 4 inches in foothills and mountainous regions. Wind gusts of 30 to 55 mph and a chance of thunderstorms are also expected. The peak timing for rain in the burn scar areas of Los Angeles County is projected between 2 a.m. and noon Tuesday. Motorists are advised to allow for extra travel time and to avoid driving during rainstorms when possible. They should expect delays, exercise caution, and remember to turn on headlights in rainy conditions. For current traffic updates, drivers can check the Caltrans Quickmap or follow Caltrans’ social media pages for updates.
