This is the dramatic moment a tornado tears metal sheets from the roof of a stadium in Indonesia.

Footage shows trees swaying before corrugated panels from the Gelora Penataran Stadium fall into the front garden area of Nglegok Village, Nglegok District, Blitar Regency, on October 14.

At least seven sheets fell first before the entire roof was lifted and thrown by strong winds at around 3:41 pm local time.

Anindya Putra Robertus, the leader of the Youth and Sports Agency of Blitar Regency, said: 'Only a small part of the west stand roof remains. Almost the entire roof has been blown away, and even the supports have collapsed.

'The wind was really strong. The rain was also very heavy.'

Authorities said the tornado also ripped the roofs off several houses in Kanigoro District and caused damage to a school building in Pojok Village, Garum District.

No injuries have been reported following the unusual weather event.

A tornado forms when warm, moist air meets cool, dry air during severe storms, creating a spinning funnel that becomes a tornado once it touches the ground.

Often linked to violent storms like supercells, tornadoes can cause severe damage alongside heavy rain, strong winds, thunder, and lightning.
