US, Los Angeles: Santa Clarita Large Oak Tree Falls Amid Storm
Los Angeles, United States - October 14, 2025 10/14/2025 12:55 pm GMT-0700 SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – Heavy rain and saturated soil caused a large oak tree to fall and block a Santa Clarita street Tuesday afternoon. More than two inches of rain fell in the Newhall area overnight as a strong autumn storm set the stage for a soggy Tuesday. The tree toppled shortly after 12:45 p.m. along the 25000 block of Wheeler Road, just south of Powell Drive. The sprawling oak came down across the roadway, blanketing an SUV and blocking all lanes. According to the National Weather Service, more than two inches of rain fell in the Newhall area overnight as a strong autumn storm soaked the Santa Clarita Valley, leaving the ground too saturated to hold the tree’s roots. Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies and city Public Works crews responded to the scene to close off the road and begin removing the debris. No injuries were immediately reported. The storm marks one of the first significant rainfall events of the season, with forecasters warning of continued wet conditions and the potential for more downed trees and minor flooding through Tuesday evening.
